We asked David Gibbs for the words to his hike song, that he sung for the bus of wary travellers on the last day. It was a great song that we all could relate to with a lot of real memories. Here it is (thanks, Dave!):
Song at the end
Tune – “ Away in a Manger”
A way in New Zealand, fresh from the Milford Track
Are 50 weary walkers, all glad to be back
There are trekkers from the north, from the south east and west
Put us all together, it works out for the best
Day one was that easy day remember Faulty Towers
A walk in Te Anau with intermittent showers
Day two also seemed easy on paths flat as a mat
A dip in the river ,soon fixed all of that !
Day three was the tester thanks to a pioneering Scot
The Mackinnon pass was the highlight – I discovered a lot
My mind and my legs working together so bold
Going up hill and down hill in the hot and the cold
Today was successful and joyous and over
Having completed the journey, I may not stay sober !!
It’s time to thank our guides no blisters left to plug
Dear Carolyn and Emily, Toshi and Doug
So here’s to each you now,
oh I wanted you to know
If you ever need a hairdresser, it ' s
to Carolyn’s you should go !!
As it's nearly all over and
we have all had a ball
And so it's to the four of
you, we say thank you to you all.
